About us
Our self-understanding is that of a networker, professionalizer und worker for a classless perspective on culture. We seek to advance the equitable exchange of artists of all spheres and generate new contents and individual perspectives.
It is hard, but rewarding work to make this aim reality – a Pottporus kind of work. It pays off for all who are involved: for those coming from the already established culture scene, like theatres , for the free off-scene and in the long term for the development of a cultural landscape that wants to reach and represent all kinds of people. We want to pull open the curtain for a big stage with an audience forced to deal with the contents lived by Pottporus. Since they exist and they are good.
morePottporus has been an incorporated associationbased in Herne, Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the head organisation of Pottporus Danceschool, the annual Urban Street Art Festival and internationally recognized stage productions of Renegade.
Pottporus has always committed itself to sustainably supporting young creatives, discover talents from dancing, music, acting and fine arts and give them a perspective for their work. Word, dance, image, sound – these four elements of Pottporus and the four elements of HipHop. Our roots are In HipHop, breakdance and in street art in a wider sense of the word. Only an artist’s potential, the talent, never the educational background, never their status in the established cultural landscape have been of importance to us. We are confessed that art is ideally classless but in reality it is not.
A dancer’s, choreographer’s or actor‘s standing is always closely related to his professional career, his cv and eventually to his systemic cultural socialasation. Creative people from the outside are important to ensure that the closed system of high culture gets fresh input and not only conserves its status quo. These outsiders speak a different language, a different way of expressing themselves, a different way of working – which is good and therefore deserves a place in a cultural landscape that does not know in- or outsiders but quality. It deserves this place permanently, not only in occasional cooperations dominated by exploiting misappropriation and systemic ignorance from the established cultural apparatus.
